Tips
-
When you get into an area where it looks real good, especially in heavy timber, start calling real soft. If something shows and you shoot it, there's always a chance something else will come when you pour the coals to the call.
-
Sometimes just a pup in distress will bring a coyote or two by just using that call. It has worked for me many times especially in an area that has been called before.
-
Start out with a crow call or something different. Mr. coyote will think the crows have found a dead deer or something and will come for and easy meal.
-
Coyotes are very territorial boundary oriented and will not enter another group of coyotes area. If a coyote or coyotes start in and hold up chances are they have come to another coyotes area. Come back another day and try to move into that area and try again maybe with a pup in distress.
-
On very windy days, 20 miles plus, find a long draw with the wind blowing straight down. Head right up the draw on foot or atv and try all the side draws. Don't stay on stand more than 10 minutes. They're either going to be there right away or it will probably be a no-show.
-
On those real quiet days, stay on your stand a bit longer. Sound will travel a long ways and they may take awhile to get there. If they answer to a howl and sound a long ways off, move in closer and cut the distance in half. There again use the pup in distress. Sometimes that will work.
